Description
Three Pieces of Glass: a masterful display of jazz bass and composition!
John Patitucci is one of the most versatile and accomplished bassists in jazz history, having collaborated with legends like Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, and Norah Jones. But his own projects showcase his mastery of both electric and double bass, as well as his creative vision as a composer and arranger. Three Pieces of Glass is a stunning example of his artistry.
The album opens with “Visa”, a bebop classic that they inject with new energy and excitement. Patitucci swings hard, Blade drives the tempo, and Potter soars high with his agile phrasing.
The next track, “Out West”, is a new piece by Patitucci that evokes the wide open spaces of the American West and the influence of the group Old and New Dreams. The trio explores the modal and folkloric aspects of the tune with sensitivity and spontaneity.
The album continues with “Three Pieces of Glass”, a new composition by Patitucci that features Potter’s expressive and melodic playing over a catchy rhythmic motif.
“Meditations” is a beautiful ballad by Potter that features his lyrical soprano saxophone and Patitucci’s expressive acoustic bass. The song has a haunting quality that reflects the spiritual dimension of jazz.
